Dosage by Peter Farr
Inspired from the work of Samuel Beckett in Krapp’s Last Tape, Dosage is a play that works to explore the concept of love as an external commodity rather than psychological phenomenon. I performed a one man version of Dosage for my thesis project at the University of Minnesota / Guthrie Theater BFA program in February of 2019. Inspiration for the play first occurred in high school upon discovering that scientists had replicated love in a chemical compound. What was previously understood as an occurrence in the human psyche could now be chemically reproduced with the endorphins dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin. The premise of the play occurred to me during my studies in the BFA, and was solidified after reading Beckett’s work. Below is attached the first few minutes of the play, as performed in the UofM / Guthrie Theater BFA program. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts and comments; I’m always looking to discover new things in my work!
